Egypt is building new airport at Berenice in the far of south of Egypt
A real surprise is not because it has been speculated for years, but it is official. "We are currently building an airport in Berenice, which will be opened in a year and a half," said the governor of the Red Sea Governor, Ahmed Abdallah at a press conference at the ITB International Tourism Exchange in Berlin. Berenice is about 200 kilometers south of the private airport Marsa Alam, which is located at Port Ghaleb. This gives completely new possibilities for divers. The southernmost diving bases are currently located in Whadi Lahmi, some 40 kilometers north of Berenice. The new airport, for example, could open up the peninsula of Ras Bana, but also an exciting destination for divers. However, anyone who dreams of day trips to St. Johns will probably be disappointed.
