Mirihi

This was our 4th visit to Maldives, we've previously stayed at Filitheyo, Soneva Fushi and Angsana Ihuru. A combination of the great reef, excellent food, wonderful staff and the size of the island made Mirihi our overall favourite experience.

The Maldives offers many different island experiences but if like us, you prefer a low key island that is well maintained, serves delicious food and offers excellent service then Mirihi should be on your shortlist. It is expensive but for us it's more a question of value for money and we felt that overall Mirihi was good value. That said, we did feel that $90 for dinner is perhaps a little too expensive considering lunch is $35 and the standard of food served at lunch is in our opinion equally good albeit there's a little less choice. The quality and presentation of the food is outstanding and the $90 price tag is probably justified considering the cost of preparing such an abundant feast but we just wouldn't have 'got our money's worth' so we chose to eat in the bar most evenings.

The house reef is fabulous and differed from previous islands as Mirihi has a large coral garden so rather than just snorkelling along the reef edge you can swim over the corals at high tide and see many different types of fish that you wouldn't see along the reef edge. The island is tiny as previous reviewers have said, it can be walked around in less than 5 minutes.

Don't worry about which water bungalows are in the best position etc, each have different pros and cons depending on what your personal preferences are. Yes, you can occasionally hear other guests next door and yes, other guests may very occasionally snorkel in front of your room but it wasn't intrusive and it's to be expected- Mirihi is by far the quietest island we've been to.
